Our primary competition is within the United Hospitals boatclub! And every year we find ourselves in stiff competition with the other medical schools around London and the Royal Veterinary College. Having said that we are quite commonly on the victorious side of the proceedings and just looking at the past years can attest to that.
UH organises 4 events throughout the year. UH Novice sprints are the first event, happening in November, quickly followed by the Allom cup. These are our first opportunity to go head to head against the other medical school. Then in the second term we have UH Regatta for all our crews and the UH head race. The year culminates with UH Bumps. All the crews line up along the river and race back to the boathouse, aiming to overtake or hit the crew in front (bump) before being taken over themselves. Its a fantastic weekend of rowing and fun is had by all!
Both our Mens and Womens 2nd Crews have won blades at the annual UH Bumps as wells as the men winning UH Head race and the Women winning UH winter regatta. Our Novice men this season have surpassed even our novice women from the season before. The Novice women of 2009/10 won every single UH event which is no easy thing, but our Novice men end this year unbeaten and as such are RUMS Team of the Year.
Outside of UH, HoRR, Hammersmith Head, Cambridge Head and Wallingford Head are all common events and we now aim to get crews to both BUCS Regatta and to Henley Royal Regatta whenever possible.
