Being a fresher coming to uni can be a daunting thought. There are so many people to meet and a new environment to get used to.
However, getting stuck into something can really make that daunting experience become one of the best ones you’ve ever had and that will stay with you for the rest of your days. So we say that the best people to make your fresher year as memorable as it can be are us here at RUMSBC
Whether you’re 7 ft tall and have the strength and stamina of a thousand men (we’ve got a GB rower in our alumni) or 5ft and want to be part of a crew (Coxing would be perfect for you) or somewhere in between and want something to keep fit, make lasting friends and have fun, come to us.
So come see us at RUMS Freshers Fair on the 27th September at the Royal Free Sports Centre in Hampstead to get more information about the introductory day at the river that happens on the first Wednesday of term.
Buses will collect you from the Cruciform Building and take you down to the river for BEER, BBQ and ROWING! You get to go out in our boats with seniors to get an idea if rowing is for you. Flip-flops and Shorts and nothing that’s too loose fitting is advised to make things easier.
Then its on to the famous Sportnite at the Huntley!!
After that we hope you want to come back again and again to be part of the next fantastic novice crew!
Novice Testimonials
“I had no idea what to expect when coming into rowing, having never been part of a sports team before university, but it has helped me make firm friends in my own year, as well as links with more experienced students in the years above. Rowing is a really unique and enjoyablesport that allows you to get out out of the noisy centre and keep active, and the mix of events, training and social misadventures have been the cornerstones of a fantastic first year.”
Louis Robertson – Men’s Novice 2010/11
“I’ve had such a fantastic year as a member of RUMSBC as it has given me the opportunity to make amazing friends and meet people in the years above who are full of advice and exam hints! If you want a way to keep fit, make great friends and enjoy the social side including sports ball and rowing dinners then I can’t recommend the boat club highly enough!
